I chose this view because of the mountains in the background.  Since we live very close to the Blue Ridge Mountains and can see them on many of our trips around our immediate area, they are dear to me.  It's a matter of fact, we just got back from a quick day trip to the mountains yesterday.  However, it seems I got these mountains a little too pointed at the top to correctly depict our mountains.  But there will be another painting to try again.  I am pleased with the colors and the trees.  This little painting leaves me wondering where would I go if I traveled down that yellow road.  I'm sure there's something interesting over the crest of the hill.

What could be more beautiful than a late evening sunset in all its colorful splendor?  I look forward to  the sunsets and lately they have been spectacular.  In this painting, I tried to capture some of that intense color with a palette knife.  I laid the color down and tried not to "fiddle" with it too much.  I wanted to achieve saturated color in the sky with the trees subdued as they are this time of day in the landscape.  Enjoy those sunsets!

This is the last painting in my Yahoola Creek Park series.  This is located in Dahlonega, Georgia--a little mountain town just north of my home.  Dahlonega is famous for being the site where gold was first discovered.  It has been preserved very much like it was in those days. 

While I was waiting for the class to assemble, I walked around the park a little and took a few photos for future reference.  I really liked this little pathway, bridge and shadows.

Depicting silver is a challenge as it reflects any and everything around it, and conveying the shine is another interesting facet of painting silver objects.  I really liked the bright and varied shades of red in the cherries. I have quite a few silver pieces to practice on, so you may be seeing more silver paintings.  I enjoyed this one so much, I plan on painting it again in the future.

My husband brought these beautiful, colorful peppers in from the garden last summer and, of course, they had to photographed and painted before landing on the dinner table.  I love to paint peppers of all kinds.  The shapes and colors are so much fun to paint--the brighter, the better.  I'm sure you'll be seeing more pepper paintings in the future as well as other vegetables from our garden.

This is another painting done in Dahlonega, Georgia en plein aire--a term I introduced in my last post which is French for "in fresh air" or as I say, painting on location.  This was done in early spring as you can tell by the spring greens.  It's springtime again and time to get out in the fresh air and paint some beautiful local scenes.

The Chestatee on Frog Hollow Road

This scene is of the Chestatee River in Dahlonega, Georgia at the end of a private road called Frog Hollow.  I love the name and love the scenery.  The rapids were so beautiful and challenging to paint, especially since this was my first attempt (2 years ago) at painting moving water and plein aire painting (painting on location).  I had lots of hurdles to overcome that day, but I learned a lot.  North Georgia has so many beautiful scenes like this just waiting to be painted.

In Honor and Memory of Pa Baker

This post is in honor of memory of my father-in-law, Henry Baker, who passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 after a brief illness.  He was 94 years old and lived a good life.  He loved gardening--both vegetable and flower gardening.  Above are two paintings I did from his labors of love.  When we brought vegetables home from Pa's garden, it was understood that they would be photographed before they were eaten.  And the flowers were always so beautiful and so bountiful.  Everyone that knew him, knew he was a man of the soil and had an extensive knowledge of how all things grow.  Today he is in heaven surrounded by the most beautiful garden of all. 

He has left us with a little bit of that knowledge and a great love of flowers and plants--even his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is missed by many.

Good Morning Monday!  Pretty Boy is painted in all his brilliant colors to brighten your Monday.  He was so much fun to paint that I also painted him in pastels--maybe a later post.  This is also a palette knife painting.  I picked up fresh color, applied it and did very little blending.

Another painting from our trip to Sapelo Island, Georgia.  The purple flowers are called Blazing Star and grow wild on Sapelo.  You see them a lot in florist arrangements.  I knew when I saw all those purples, I just had to get a photo for a future painting.  I really like all the colors in the trees and carrying out the purple color scheme.
