Evening on the Lake

Evening on the Lake
5x7  Oil  on Panel

A palette knife painting using blues to depict the late evening light on the lake just before darkness sets in.  I used a mixture of Alizarin and Ultramarine Blue for the dark trees and reflections in the water.  I seem to prefer smaller formats such as 5x7, 6x6 and 8x8.  It's fun to experiment with different themes and methods and not invest in a larger painting.  I do sometimes venture into the larger paintings and will post some in the future.  Thank you for stopping by.  I sincerely appreciate your time.

A Pear for Today

A Pear for Today, Oil 6x6 on museum quality panel

I love the color combination in this little painting.  I started the painting with a brush and got my color shapes, shadows, etc. worked out and then came back with even more color using a palette knife putting down fresh strokes of paint.  It was an enjoyable process and is one of my favorites.  My photography leaves a lot to be desired--another project for another day.

Two Boats for Two Days of Blogging

Two Boats

Two Boats       8x8 Oil

This is a palette knife painting I did in a class I took February 2012.  I am usually a very tight, detailed painter and this was so much fun to do as I was able to put down fresh paint and leave it there.  I wasn't tempted to keep working it as the temptation is with a brush.  I was pleased with the end result and hooked on palette knife painting.  Have a great Monday!

Purple Iris

Sunday, January 27, 2013

This is my very first post and since I love iris, I chose this little painting to share with you. I started painting in oils many years ago and then changed to watercolors for a number of years.  In 2011, I took an oil class and was hooked again on oil painting.  So for the past 2 years, I have been totally committed to oils.  This was one of my first endeavors with a close up flower in oils.  Hope you enjoy.
