Waiting for the Meet

Waiting for the Meet
Oil   12 x 12

We are fortunate enough to live about 3 miles from the site of the 1996 Olympic canoe and kayak venue,  so needless to say, those sports are pretty popular here through the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.  Check it out at www.lckc.org .  Three of our 6 grandchildren are on a kayak team, and each spring and fall we attend their all day regatta.  It's a lot fun.  We pack a serious picnic lunch and make a festive day of it.  Our kids always take home medals which makes it even sweeter.  And there are lots of opportunities for some neat photographs with all the colorful canoes and kayaks.  I loved the colors and reflections of these boats in the water and have lots more photos for future inspiration.

Have a great weekend!  I appreciate your interest in my art work.  Thank you!

Monet's Garden

Monet's Garden
Oil   12x12

It would be interesting to know just how many times Monet's garden has been photographed and painted.  I can certainly see why because it is such an interesting subject.  It's beautiful (although I've only seen it through photographs) and the famous artist, Monet, painted it himself many times.  Oh to be in such good company.

As you can see, I loaded up on luscious color and had a great time painting the tree reflections in the lily pond--didn't add the lilies.  I like the canoe tucked alongside the bank and, of course, the famous turquoise bridge in the background.  This was another fun palette knife painting.  Hope you enjoy.

Have a great week and stop by again.

Santa Barbara Palms
Santa Barbara Palms
Oil    5x7

Since we are talking beach talk (from the last post), I thought I would post these colorful palm trees.  A couple years ago, we were fortunate enough to take a trip up the California and Oregon coast and what a marvelous trip it was!  Along the way, I photographed these palms in Santa Barbara.  I love palm trees and plan on painting some more in the future.  Since we don't see many palm trees in our area, I rely on my beach trips to gather information and photos to paint.  I hope I've added a little color to your day.

Thank you for your visit.  Please stop by again.

Take Me to the Beach

Take Me to the Beach
Oil    6x6

It's the good ole summertime and I hope you are enjoying some wonderful vacation time.  When the weather gets warm, I always start dreaming of going to the beach.  There's just something about that water lapping on the shore and sand between my toes that keeps calling me back.  This bright pink umbrella and beach chair seemed like the perfect thing to post for day dreaming in June.  All we need is a good book and an ice cold drink.  So kick back and take a trip to the beach with me.

Thank you for stopping by today.  Have a wonderful week (and don't forget to dream about the sand and surf).

Antigone

Antigone
Oil   5x7

Antigone--a unique name--is an antique shop somewhere in southern Alabama.  We were on our way to Navarre, Florida to the beach.  As we were stopped at a traffic light in this small town, I saw the antique shop and started clamoring to get to the opposite side of the vehicle (over my husband) to get a photograph before the light changed.  I love traveling the back roads.  You never know what intriguing scenes you might stumble upon.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday!

Three Pots

Three Pots
Oil   5x7

Flowers in clay pots and bird houses--a few of my favorite things.  The birds are so busy feeding their young and the flowers are bursting in bloom everywhere.  It is difficult to keep my mind on my driving these days as I don't want to miss the profusion of blooms as I'm traveling around the area.  Spring is putting on a show for us and providing lots of material for the artist's eye.  Stop and smell the roses, or iris or peonies--take it all in.

Enjoy your day!  Thank you for your visit!

Three Red Apples
Three Red Apples
Oil    5x7

Apples have always been a favorite subject for artists to paint.  The colors and shapes are always interesting and different.  The next time I set up an apple still life, I will attempt to paint it in a looser style--still realistic but not painted as "tightly" as this one.  Experimentation keeps the painting process fresh and exciting.

Hope you enjoy your apples today.  Your visit to my blog is always appreciated!

Water Lilies

Water Lilies
Oil   5x7

I love water lilies!  I love to look at them, photograph them and paint them.  I love their colors and the shape of the leaves--you get picture.  These were photographed at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Water lilies are just beginning to bloom for this season and so I thought it would be a good time to post a painting.  I obviously took some liberties with enhancing the colors in the leaves.  I think this is just a happy spring painting, and I hope you enjoy it and that it brightens your Monday morning.

Have a wonderful week!

Blue Shutter

Blue Shutter
Oil    5x7

It's lovely springtime again with flowers blooming everywhere--such a wonderful time of the year.  We so enjoy walking around our yard and seeing all the delicate blooms and beautiful colors.  This painting sings with color, and I thought it would be a nice springtime post with the flowers cascading over the balcony and bright blue shutters as a background.  Hope you are enjoying all of God's springtime creations.

Thank you for checking in with me.  I sincerely appreciate each and every visit.  Have a wonderful week!

Lake at Cottrell Ranch

Lake at Cottrell Ranch
Oil  8x10

Good morning sunshine!  For those of you who live close by, you know we've been experiencing cold and rain for the last several days, so waking up to sunshine this morning is such an uplifting treat.

We were driving to a painting location in north Georgia through the dense trees along this little winding road.  Suddenly the road opened up and there was this beautiful lake with the water iris along the edge and mountain laurel hanging from the banks.  We were all so excited, we could hardly wait to set up easels.  Another beautiful day, beautiful scene with paint brush in hand.  I'm thankful for this and SO MUCH more!

What are you thankful for today?  Stop by and visit any time.
